Dismantling the Doctrine
of Discovery

My conversations with Sarah Augustine, an Indigenous scholar and activist, have changed the way I view the world. They have enabled me to see the deep structures of colonization that are so often invisible to people like me. In this podcast, you get to eavesdrop on these world-changing conversations. Those deep structures of colonization—called the Doctrine of Discovery—are rooted in church doctrines that originated in the 15th century, and they still justify current laws and policies that remove land from Indigenous Peoples.
